August 28, 2008/bc

SPRINGFIELD, IL – The Governor has legislation giving school districts greater abilities to gain information on troubled teachers, according to State Sen. Dave Syverson (R-Rockford), a sponsor of the measure.

Public Act 95-0908, formerly House Bill 4252, gives school districts permission to disclose reports on employees accused of abuse who are applying for work in other school districts. The Senate had approved the measure without opposition in May....

Syverson: Democrats party in Springfield, Republicans ready to work

August 13, 2008/bc

SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Sen. Dave Syverson (R-Rockford) and fellow Senate Republicans went to work Wednesday at the Capital, calling on Illinois’ Democrat leadership to “put aside the political gamesmanship, the inter-party conflicts and the hypocrisy.”

“Today, Illinois roads, bridges and schools are in serious need of repair,” Syverson said. “State government is billions of dollars behind in its payments, and the job market continues to struggle. We are here, ready to work; our Democrat colleagues, unfortunately, seem more interested in spending the day at the fair eating corn dogs and hearing political speeches rather than fixing the problems that need to be addressed.” ...

July 10, 2008/bc

SPRINGFIELD, IL – State Sen. Dave Syverson (R-Rockford) says Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s budget vetoes fail to deliver the true fiscal restraint needed in Illinois. While the Governor had warned of deep cuts to the budget, Syverson says in reality the vetoes included a combination of growth reductions and a deferral of costs to Medicaid providers and that in the end, the modest amount of cuts that were made does not come close to covering the state’s $2.5 billion shortfall. ...

Syverson Backs Statewide Construction Plan

May 31, 2008/bc

SPRINGFIELD, IL –Illinois came a step closer to repairing its aging infrastructure on Saturday, as State Sen. Dave Syverson (R-Rockford) joined a bipartisan coalition of senators in passing a statewide construction plan.

“This is something I’ve worked on for a number of years,” Syverson said. “One of my goals was to ensure Winnebago County did well under any construction plan we enacted, and under this measure, we did better than a majority of Senate districts. We will see more than $250 million coming back to the Rockford area for our roads, bridges and schools.”...
